Ok y’all – as much as I wish I could be photographing you, I also want you to be able to capture amazing selfies and improve your own shooting technique while working with a smart phone!
Business owners especially need to compensate their professional personal branding images with their own personal content and it’s SO important to find great light that flatters and helps you create a cohesive look online!
So let’s dig in!
As usual – there’s a video filled with examples of light but let’s break it down for you readers out there!
There are basically FOUR KINDS OF LIGHT you’re likely to find outside:
****OPEN SHADE (or a regular cloudy day will also suffice)
****SPECKLED LIGHT (where light is leaking thru foliage of the trees)
****FULL SUN (into the full light of the sun, harsh and causes squinting)
****BACK-LIT OPEN SHADE (standing on the edge of the shade letting sun hit the back of your head like a hair-light)
AGAIN, it’s important for you to find FLAT EVEN LIGHT. Another thing I forgot to mention in the video (but we’ll be covering in tones, light temps and color cast) is WHAT you’re standing on matters too. So if the light is bouncing off of grass, you might get a green cast. Walking on red brick might cast a red shade on your face… etc. For right now, I’d stick to pavement or neutral gravel.
That’s all for today – remember these are simple easy tips, this is supposed to be fun and if it’s not quite coming together at first, give it time, great things take practice! Before you know it, you’ll be creating beautiful artsy selfies that really capture your spirit:
And feel free to pick my brain for ANYTHING – I’m here to help you guys master the art of selfies!
Sending you all my love!
