Does the fact that I offer hair and makeup services to all my clients DESPITE the fact that I rarely wear makeup (don’t even own foundation and don’t even get me started on contouring) make me a hypocrite?
I don’t think so. Hear me out.
First of all. One of my three big rules in my studio is: “there is no wrong way to be a woman”. That means that some women feel 100% comfortable without a drop of makeup, some wouldn’t be caught dead without a full glam face and some sit squarely in the middle. It is not my job to put you in a pretty box that makes me comfortable and makes sense to me. You are exquisitely unique and whatever you decide will be entirely fine by me. There is only one you in this whole universe and only you get to say what that looks like!
Second, I would venture to say there are a few things I know a bit better than non-photographers. For example, in the nearly 10 years of phographing women I have learned that a raw image (an unedited digital) strips contrast by 20-30 percent which is why we sometimes looked “washed off” in everyday snapshots. Add in studio lights, reflectors, etc and it’s even more noticeable. It’s possible to bring the contrast and life back thru editing but looks much more natural if it’s already there. Makeup artists know that, which is why they always focus on making features “pop”. May seem a bit much in person but in a photograph it will look very natural and flattering!
Third but not least, makeup is an amazing tool to tell a story or to experience a part of yourself you rarely reveal. We all know what we look like in day to day life, but it is so fascinating to try on a different side of you – a bold lip, thick long lashes or a jewel toned eyeshadow. It’s like the grown up version of playing dress up! To me, makeup is a way to express myself, to tell a story to the outside world. It’s art in the truest sense of the word.
Ultimately – it is entirely YOUR choice and I will support you 100% of the way. The only thing I care about is that you have an amazing experience and that you feel like the best version of you!

I hardly ever wear makeup. I might put on a light coat of mascara on a special occasion but that is about as elaborate as it gets for me. However, anytime I know I will be stepping in front of a camera I love to wear eyeshadow, blush and something light to bring out my lips. It might not be my daily look but professional photographs aren’t an everyday thing. Knowing that I look my best makes me feel my best in front of the camera.

I don’t wear a full face everyday but like to cover acne and have lashes and brows done. Makes sure I have a face 🤣
